iNav4U User Interfaces
Designed Around the Vessel, Not the Screen
One of the strongest advantages of the iNav4U Platform is its flexible user interface architecture that adapts to your mission, not the other way around.
The Fundamental Difference
Unlike traditional marine systems where the interface is hard-wired into the operating system and hardware, the iNav4U Platform cleanly separates the core operational layer from the visual interface layer.
This architectural separation changes what is possible onboard a vessel, enabling:
- Mission-specific interfaces tailored to different operational needs
- Multi-role displays for different crew members
- Future-proof flexibility that evolves with your requirements
- Hardware independence from display technology
Traditional vs iNav4U Approach
Traditional Marine Interfaces
Most chart plotters and marine displays are constrained by:
- ❌ Software, data, and screen interface tightly linked
- ❌ Interface fixed by the manufacturer
- ❌ Same UI for all vessel types and missions
- ❌ Limited or impossible customization
- ❌ Major changes require hardware replacement
This approach works for basic navigation but becomes a limitation as vessels grow more complex.
iNav4U Architecture
The iNav4U Platform separates the system into three clear layers:
The Operating System
Manages hardware, sensors, safety, and reliabilityThe Data and Logic Layer
Collects, processes, and understands vessel stateThe User Interface
Displays information through standardized, secure APIs
Key Principle: The UI is a client of the system, not the system itself.
Available User Interfaces
Different missions require different interfaces. The iNav4U Platform runs several frontends on the same iNav4U OS. For a customer, each product is its frontend and iNav4U OS together: Zora is the Zora frontend on iNav4U OS.
Interface Options
Interfaces are organized by operational function rather than product name. Each category groups one or more user interfaces designed for that mission.
- Recreational Navigation — leisure and light commercial yachts. Current interface: Zora (Help guide).
- Commercial Navigation* — industrial navigation bridge for commercial fleets (Navio).
- Autonomous Vessels* — control and monitoring for USVs and unmanned platforms (Pelos).
- Professional Operations* — mission-critical interfaces for professional operations (Tactical UI).
- Custom OEM* — bespoke interfaces for super-yachts and integration partners.
(*) Under construction. Please contact us for information on specialized interfaces.
Every interface communicates through standardized, secure APIs.
The OS remains stable and uncompromised, regardless of interface differences.
Key Capabilities
1. Web-Based Architecture
Benefits of the web application approach:
✓ Hardware Agnostic – Same interface works across different screen sizes and devices
✓ Multi-Display Support – Multiple displays show different views simultaneously
✓ Rapid Updates – Interface improvements deployed faster and safer
✓ Independent Evolution – UI evolves without changing core system
✓ Offline First – Runs locally on vessel, no internet connection required
The UI runs entirely onboard and remains fully operational offline.
2. Mission-Specific Adaptation
Because the UI is separated from the OS and data layer, the iNav4U Platform adapts to different vessel types without changing the core system:
Recreational Boating
- Clean, simple navigation views
- Focus on situational awareness
- Reduced complexity for everyday use
Commercial & Fisheries
- Engine and system monitoring
- Operational logging
- Watchkeeping and compliance support
Autonomous Vessels (USV)
- Remote operator interfaces
- Mission monitoring dashboards
- Minimal or no onboard screens
Professional Operations
- Role-based interfaces
- Controlled information visibility
- Mission-specific layouts
All use the same iNav4U OS underneath.
3. Multi-Role, Multi-Station Operation
Different crew members need different information. The iNav4U Platform delivers:
✓ Role-Specific Views – Skipper, crew, engineer, and service technicians each get tailored interfaces
✓ Non-Identical Displays – Screens don't need to mirror each other
✓ Shared System State – Same data, different presentations
✓ Access Control – Rights and permissions enforced at all times
This level of flexibility is difficult or impossible with traditional chart plotters.
4. Transparent Automation
Automation must remain understandable and controllable. The iNav4U Platform ensures:
✓ Visible Actions – Automation actions are always visible and explainable
✓ User Confirmation – Important actions require explicit approval
✓ State Reflection – Interface always reflects real system state
✓ User Control – Operators stay in command
Separating UI from system logic prevents hidden or confusing automation behavior.
5. Future-Proof Design
Vessels last decades. Interface technology evolves rapidly. The iNav4U Platform bridges this gap:
✓ UI Redesign – Update interface without replacing the system
✓ Display Evolution – Support new screen hardware over time
✓ No Vendor Lock-In – Freedom at the interface level
✓ Long-Term Ownership – Suitable for professional fleets and decades-long vessel lifecycles
Why It Matters
The Core Distinction
Traditional chart plotters are fixed devices with fixed interfaces.
iNav4U OS is a vessel operating system with flexible interfaces.
The Advantage
By separating the UI from the operating system and data layer, the iNav4U Platform adapts to:
- Different users – From recreational skippers to professional operators
- Different missions – From leisure cruising to autonomous operations
- Different needs – From simple navigation to complex fleet management
- Future requirements – Without rebuilding the core system
No Two Journeys Are the Same
With the iNav4U Platform, you're not locked into a single interface or workflow. Choose the perfect dashboard for your vessel, mission, or team — all running on the same secure, reliable base.
It's flexibility without complexity, and future-proof by design.
This architectural flexibility is one of the key reasons the iNav4U Platform goes beyond traditional marine electronics.
