Hardware
Industrial heritage. Marine-grade.
iNav4U OS runs on industrial computing hardware engineered for environments where consumer electronics simply cannot survive.
The platform is more than software. iNav4U OS is built and validated against a specific class of industrial computing hardware — and the choice of hardware is part of the platform's reliability story.
Industrial-grade by design
iNav4U OS runs on fanless, sealed, industrial computing units designed for the kinds of environments where conventional hardware fails:
- Sealed and fanless — no moving parts, no air intake to corrode, no dust ingress
- Wide operating temperature range — engine rooms, exposed helms, freezing offshore conditions
- Vibration and shock tolerant — built for moving platforms
- Long service life — designed to run for years without intervention
- Marine power tolerance — handles the variable, dirty power found on most boats
These are not specifications added after the fact. They are the baseline requirement for a system that has to function reliably 24/7 on a vessel that may be hundreds of nautical miles from the nearest service technician.
Defense and space heritage
The current iNav4U platform uses industrial computing hardware from the same product family deployed in some of the most demanding environments on (and off) Earth:
- Defense systems — including units fielded by national defense forces
- NASA Mars Perseverance rover — the same hardware family operates on the surface of Mars
This is not coincidence. We chose this hardware because the engineering tolerances required for space and defense applications are exactly the engineering tolerances required for serious marine deployment: extreme environments, no possibility of physical intervention, no tolerance for failure.
If it can survive Mars, it can survive a hard offshore passage.
Hardware-rooted security
Every iNav4U computing unit ships with a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) chip — a dedicated cryptographic processor that enables our zero-credential security model.
See the Security page for the security architecture.
Why hardware choice matters
A marine operating system is only as reliable as the hardware it runs on. Choosing hardware with defense and space heritage is not a marketing flourish — it is the only way to deliver a system that will still be running correctly in five, ten, or twenty years, on a boat that has been at sea for thousands of nautical miles, in conditions no consumer device was ever designed to withstand.
We do things the way they are meant to be. That starts at the metal.
