Engine compatibility ​

Zora reads an engine from NMEA 2000. Most engines do not speak it themselves, so the row that matters is usually the gateway between the engine and the bus.

An engine with no gateway at all can still be set up in Zora and switched on and off by hand, so the boat's state and logbook know when it runs.

What the three answers mean ​

  • Works with Zora. Zora drives this.
  • Not supported. Zora cannot drive this. It is still visible on the bus.
  • On the roadmap. Not built yet. It is on the list, with no date.
  • Works, untested. Built, and not yet checked on a boat. Works, partly untested. The row names what has not been checked.

Any engine or gateway on NMEA 2000 ​

Works with Zora. Rpm, temperatures, pressures, hours and fuel rate from any engine that reaches NMEA 2000 on the standard messages, and the engine's own warnings as Zora alarms.

Not yet tested on a boat: Zora raises the engine's own alarms.

Models: any engine, gateway or engine monitor sending PGN 127488 and 127489. Also called: n2k engine, nmea 2000 engine, engine gateway, 127488.

Engines from other makers, through their NMEA 2000 gateway ​

Works with Zora. Read like any engine on NMEA 2000 once the maker's gateway puts it on the bus.

Reported working on a boat, not yet tested by us.

Models: Yamaha, Mercury, Yanmar, Cummins. Also called: yamaha, mercury, yanmar, cummins.

CANvu Engine Gateway Monitor ​

Works with Zora. Rpm and engine data on NMEA 2000. It is powered from the engine harness and goes silent when the engine stops, so Zora reads the engine as stopped after five seconds of silence.

Not yet tested on a boat: Zora raises the engine's own alarms.

Models: CANvu Engine Gateway Monitor. Also called: canvu, canvu gateway.

Yacht Devices YDEG-04 engine gateway ​

Works with Zora. Carries a J1939 or Volvo Penta EVC engine onto NMEA 2000 on the standard engine messages. Present on a Zora boat, with no engine data recorded through it yet.

Not yet tested on a boat.

Models: YDEG-04, YDEG-04N. Also called: ydeg, ydeg-04, yacht devices engine gateway, j1939 gateway.

Volvo Penta EVC engines ​

Works with Zora. Read through a Yacht Devices YDEG-04 on the engine's Multilink socket, with the adapter cable for the EVC generation. Not yet tried on a boat.

Not yet tested on a boat.

Needs. A Yacht Devices YDEG-04 engine gateway.

Models: EVC-EC, EVC-2, EasyConnect, D1 and D2 with MDI, IPS, EVC-A, EVC-MC. Also called: volvo, volvo penta, evc, multilink, d2-40, d2-40f, ips.

Actisense EMU-1 engine monitor ​

Works with Zora. Carries an analog engine's senders onto NMEA 2000. On a Zora boat it has only announced itself so far, with no engine data.

Not yet tested on a boat.

Models: EMU-1. Also called: emu-1, emu1, actisense emu, analog engine gateway.

Maretron EMS100 engine monitor ​

Works with Zora. Carries an analog engine's senders onto NMEA 2000. Not yet seen on a Zora boat.

Not yet tested on a boat.

Models: EMS100. Also called: ems100, maretron engine.

An engine with no gateway ​

Works with Zora. Set up in Zora and switched on and off by hand, so the boat's state and logbook know when it runs. No gauges and no alarms.

Not yet tested on a boat.

Models: any engine with nothing on NMEA 2000, outboards, older diesels. Also called: no engine data, analog engine, outboard, virtual engine, manual engine.

J1939 engines wired straight to the server ​

On the roadmap. Not built. A J1939 engine reaches Zora through a gateway such as the YDEG-04.

Models: any J1939 engine on its own CAN port, without a gateway. Also called: j1939, direct j1939, engine can.

An engine that is not listed here is unknown, not incompatible. This page says what has been checked, and nothing has been checked about the rest.

Contact support with the engine make, model and year, and any gateway fitted to it. We will tell you which gateway it takes and what Zora shows through it.
