Instrument compatibility

Any instrument that speaks standard NMEA 2000 or NMEA 0183 is read as it is, with no setup per brand. The rows below are the ones with something to know: a wiring detail, a setting, or a reading that needs correcting on the sensor.

Where two instruments measure the same thing, Zora uses the one ranked first and falls back to the next when it goes quiet.

What the three answers mean

• Works with Zora. Zora drives this.
• Not supported. Zora cannot drive this. It is still visible on the bus.
• On the roadmap. Not built yet. It is on the list, with no date.
• Works, untested. Built, and not yet checked on a boat. Works, partly untested. The row names what has not been checked.

Any NMEA 2000 instrument on standard PGNs

Works with Zora. Wind, depth, speed, heading, position and temperatures are read from the bus as fitted.

Models: wind, depth, speed through water, heading, GPS, water and air temperature. Also called: nmea 2000 instrument, n2k sensor, wind sensor, depth sounder, compass, gps antenna.

Any NMEA 0183 instrument on a serial port

Works with Zora. Standard NMEA 0183 sentences are read from the server's RS232 or RS485 port at 4800 to 230400 baud.

Needs. The talker wired to the server's RS232 or RS485 pins, both RS485 data lines landed, and Zora's serial source set to that port at the talker's baud rate.

Models: wind, depth, speed, heading, GPS on NMEA 0183. Also called: nmea 0183, 0183 instrument, rs232, rs422, rs485, serial gps.

Any NMEA 0183 instrument over the boat network

Works with Zora. NMEA 0183 from a multiplexer or gateway on the boat network, over TCP or UDP.

Not yet tested on a boat.

Models: NMEA 0183 over TCP or UDP. Also called: 0183 wifi, nmea tcp, nmea udp, port 10110.

Instruments and sensors from other makers on NMEA 2000

Works with Zora. Read as any instrument on standard NMEA 2000 PGNs.

Reported working on a boat, not yet tested by us.

Instruments and sensors from other makers on NMEA 0183

Works with Zora. Read as any instrument sending standard NMEA 0183 sentences.

Reported working on a boat, not yet tested by us.

Models: Airmar, B&G, ComNav, Cyclops Marine load sensors, Furuno, Garmin, JRC, KVH, Lowrance, Nasa Marine, Raymarine, Simrad, SailTimer wind instrument with Air Link. Also called: nasa marine, comnav, jrc, sailtimer, air link.

Raymarine SeaTalk1 instruments

Works with Zora. Read through a converter onto NMEA 2000, or through a multiplexer onto NMEA 0183. SeaTalk1 does not connect to the server directly.

Needs. A Raymarine SeaTalk1 to SeaTalkng converter (E22158), or a ShipModul MiniPlex-2Wi (MiniPlex-2Wi), or a ShipModul MiniPlex-3 without NMEA 2000, or a ShipModul MiniPlex-3 with NMEA 2000.

Models: ST60, ST40, ST50, ST60+, SeaTalk1 wind, depth, speed and log. Also called: seatalk, seatalk1, st60, st40, st50, tridata, st60 wind.

Airmar 200WX WeatherStation on NMEA 0183

Works with Zora. Wind, air pressure and temperature, position and heading. Pitch and roll are in the sensor's output and not shown in Zora yet. This part number has no humidity sensor.

Needs. The sensor's yellow RX wire on the server's RS232 TxD (pin 12), and the port set to Airmar 200WX in Setup, so Zora switches on its standard sentences at every boot, and the boat's compass ranked first among heading sources, never the magnetometer inside an AIS or VHF.

Models: 200WX RS232. Also called: 200wx, airmar, weatherstation, airmar weather station, pb200.

Airmar DST810 depth, speed and temperature

Works with Zora. Depth, speed through water and water temperature, read from the bus as fitted. A marginal backbone connection hides it completely.

Models: DST810. Also called: dst810, dst 810, airmar triducer, smart triducer.

Airmar H2183 heading sensor

Works with Zora. Heading, rate of turn and attitude. Roll carries a fixed offset until it is zeroed on the sensor.

Models: H2183. Also called: h2183, airmar compass, airmar heading sensor.

B&G Precision-9 compass and ZG100 GPS and heading

Works with Zora. Heading from either compass and position from the ZG100, read from the bus as fitted.

Models: Precision-9, ZG100. Also called: precision 9, precision-9, zg100, b&g compass, b&g gps.

B&G H5000 performance processor

Works with Zora. Wind, speed and heading are read. Its sail-tactics PGN is dropped on purpose, because MFDs echo it onto the bus until it floods it and nothing in Zora uses it.

Not yet tested on a boat.

Models: H5000 CPU. Also called: h5000, b&g h5000, hercules.

B&G H3000 and Hydra 2000 on NMEA 0183

Works with Zora. Read from the NMEA 0183 output of the NMEA FFD or the H3000 processor. Fastnet itself does not connect to Zora.

From the manufacturer's documentation, not yet tested on a boat.

Models: H3000, Hydra 2000, NMEA FFD. Also called: h3000, hydra, hydra 2000, hydra 3000, h2000, fastnet, nmea ffd.

Raymarine B164 fish-finder transducer

Not supported. An analog transducer with no data output. Its depth reaches Zora only through a sounder module and an MFD that put depth on NMEA 2000.

Models: B164. Also called: b164, airmar b164, 50/200 khz transducer, cp370 transducer.

Arco Zeus alternator regulator

Not supported. Seen on the bus, and not usable yet. One regulator shows up as several engines, and on another boat it sent speed through water, so rank it out of the speed sources.

Models: Zeus. Also called: arco, arco zeus, arco smart regulator, alternator regulator.

An instrument that is not listed here is unknown, not incompatible. This page says what has been checked, and nothing has been checked about the rest.
