Trips and journeys

Zora writes your trip history by itself, from what the boat is doing. This is how it decides where one record ends and the next begins, and where its numbers and names come from. To look through the records, see Trips & Stops.

Passages and stops

Every moment of the boat's life belongs to one record: a passage or a stop, one after the other.

A stop begins when the boat is anchored, moored, docked or in the yard. Any other state, such as sailing, motoring or drifting, is under way and begins a passage. Nothing needs to be started or stopped by hand, and a record carries on if Zora restarts.

Only a change between under way and stopped makes a new record:

• Going from sailing to motoring is still the same passage.
• Moving from an anchorage onto a mooring is still the same stop, kept under the kind it began with.
• Anchoring, mooring or docking on the way in does not end the passage. It ends once the boat is settled.

What a record keeps

Every record keeps the position where it began. A passage also keeps where it ended.

A passage adds up its distance and time from the track as you go, split by the navigation state the boat was in. That split is the Summary table of the record.

Place names

When a record changes, Zora asks an online place service for the name of the spot. The same name is where the passage ends and where the stop begins. With no internet, or no answer, the names read Start and End; you can correct them.

Countries

A passage collects every country whose waters it enters, in the order it enters them. A stop keeps the country it began in. A border clipped for only a moment is not counted.

Grouping trips into journeys is in development and has no screen yet.
