DNS - Dynamic Navigation Screen ​

The DNS is the navigation screen that changes with the boat. Sailing, it shows the wind and the traffic around you; at anchor, the satellite view of the anchorage; racing, the regatta card. Each vessel state has a layout of its own, and the DNS switches to it when the state changes. You design each layout the way you want it.

Open the DNS ​

Tap SCREENS in the app bar, then DNS - Dynamic Navigation Screen on the Navigation tab. Zora also opens on the DNS when it has no other screen to go back to.

The layouts ​

There are twelve layouts: one for each of the ten vessel states, and two for racing, regatta prestart before the start and regatta after it. Every one comes with a layout to start from; What the vessel state changes lists them.

A layout belongs to the display it was designed on: its station, its size (phone, tablet, desktop or wide screen) and whether it is upright or on its side. The chart table and a tablet in the cockpit each keep their own, and a tablet you turn sideways shows its landscape layouts.

Any other station shows the default station's version of each layout until you save that layout there. One save, in any size or orientation, makes it the station's own; its other sizes and orientations then start from the layout Zora came with.

Choose the layout to edit ​

With the DNS on screen, long-press SCREENS in the app bar. From any other screen, tap SCREENS and long-press the DNS - Dynamic Navigation Screen tile.

Edit DNS state opens, with a tile for each of the twelve layouts. The one the boat is in now is highlighted. Each tile shows a picture of its layout once you have saved it on this display. A layout still showing the default station's version shows the default's picture, and one with no picture yet shows a general one.

Tap a layout to edit it. The boat does not have to be in that state.

Design the layout ​

The DNS shows the layout you chose, with its name beside the menu in the edit bar.

  • Add Content adds a widget. On a phone the button reads Widget.
  • Tap a widget to select it. Drag it to move it; it snaps to the grid. Drag the handle in its bottom right corner to make it larger or smaller.
  • Tap the selected widget again for its menu: settings, duplicate, deselect and delete.
  • To delete several at once, tap Select, tap the widgets, then choose Delete selected from the … menu.

The rest of the edit tools work as they do on any screen; see Edit Mode.

Save ​

Tap Update to keep the layout, or Cancel to throw your changes away. Either one takes you back to Edit DNS state, to edit the next layout. Below desktop width the two are icons, ✕ and the save disk; a phone shows the words.

The first time you save on this display, Zora takes a picture of the layout for its tile. To take a new one, tap screenshot under the tile of the layout on screen; Zora asks before it replaces a picture.

When you have finished, tap Done. The DNS goes back to the layout for the boat's state.

TIP

Start with the layouts you use most, often sailing, motoring and anchored. The others can wait.

Go back to the default ​

To throw a layout away and go back to the one Zora came with, edit it, open … then Settings, and long-press to default. This resets that layout on this display only. At any other station, the layout goes back to the default station's version instead, unless that station has saved the layout in another size or orientation.
