Person Over Board
When someone goes over the side, one tap marks where they went in and sets a course back to them. Zora keeps them on the chart and shows the bearing and distance until you end the alarm.
Raise the alarm
- Tap EMERGENCY in the app bar.
- Tap POB.
There is no question first: the tap raises the alarm. Zora then:
- takes the boat's position at that moment as the place the person went in, and marks it on the chart as POB position;
- raises the alarm, Emergency - Person over Board, with its sound;
- sets a course back to it: a route from the boat to that position, shown on the chart;
- writes person over board in the logbook;
- opens the POB screen on this display.
A MOB button on the boat's network, or an AIS MOB beacon, raises the same alarm on its own. A beacon registered to one of your crew puts their name on the alarm.
If Zora restarts during the alarm, the alarm and its reports come back.
Tap POB again if a second person goes over. Every tap files its own report, at the boat's position at that moment. See More than one report.
The POB screen
On another display, tap the alarm in the notifications. It opens the POB screen there, with Who is over board? on top (see Say who is in the water). Or tap POB active in the app bar, beside EMERGENCY.
The screen shows the navigation display, the AIS view and the chart. On the navigation display, BTP is the bearing to the person and DTP the distance. The POB data panel stays open beside it, even when you change screens, until the alarm ends.
The POB data panel lists:
- each report: who it is, or not identified, the time it was raised and how long ago;
- the checklist;
- lat: and lon:, the position the boat is steering to;
- the water temp: now.
Work the checklist
Two items stay red until you tap them:
- Launch Lifebuoy: release the lifebuoy.
- Assign Watch to a crew member.
Tap an item to tick it; tap again to clear it. The ticks show on every display.
Say who is in the water
Tap a report in the POB data panel, or tap the alarm. Who is over board? opens.
- Tap the report if it is not open already.
- Tap the crew member's name. The names come from the crew of the active trip, or from every user if the trip has no crew.
- Tap done.
The mark on the chart then carries their name, and so does the alarm while the boat is steering to them.
More than one report
Two taps on POB, a MOB button and a beacon can all report the same person, and nothing on board can tell one person from three. Zora keeps every report on the panel.
- Steer to a report: tap the round button at the end of its row. The boat steers to one report at a time, and that row is highlighted.
- Reports raised close together are grouped under a heading such as 2 reports within 40 m. If they are one person, tap the heading, then one person. Zora keeps the first position, where they went in, and drops the others. Tap keep them apart if more than one person is in the water.
- Naming two reports as the same crew member joins them into one.
End the alarm
WARNING
Do not end the alarm until the person is back on board or the search is over.
- Tap found or cancel POB at the bottom of the POB data panel.
- End POB? says what happens next. Choose why you are ending it:
- Person found
- End Test
- person lost
Zora stops steering to the person, writes the reason in the logbook and returns to the screen you were on. Each position stays on the chart as a waypoint, named as its mark was with the date and time in UTC added, such as POB position 2026-09-27 14:03. Delete it from the waypoint list when you no longer need it.
A beacon still transmitting
If a beacon is still sending its position, or a MOB button is still pressed, Zora asks first: Still reporting a position.
- stop the alarm ends the alarm and stops steering, but Zora keeps the person on the chart while the beacon transmits. The app bar button reads POB tracking, and the panel says Alarm stood down. The POB closes by itself once the beacon stops.
- keep the alarm leaves everything as it was.
Tap raise the alarm again in the panel to bring the alarm back.
