Anchor Watch
Once the anchor holds, Zora keeps watch. It knows where the anchor lies, follows the boat as it swings, and sounds the anchor-dragging alarm if the boat leaves the circle you allow it.
The watch starts when you tap is holding at the end of anchoring, and runs until you get underway. To anchor, follow Anchor on the Vessel state page. The watch carries on through a restart of Zora.
The watch circle
When you tap is holding, Zora places the anchor ahead of the bow, along the boat's heading, as far as the chain reaches. That reach comes from the chain you have out and the depth the chain works against, and it is the radius of the swing circle. As the tide rises and falls, Zora adjusts the circle.
Around it is the alarm circle: the swing circle plus the margin you set with margin added in the Tools panel, from 0 to 50 m. See At anchor. Zora sounds the alarm when the boat's distance to the anchor goes past the alarm circle.
Watch from the chart
At anchor, the Charts screen and the satellite view show the anchor, the swing circle and the alarm circle. The alarm circle is green while the boat is inside it and turns red once the boat is outside.

The anchor view
The anchor view puts the anchor at the centre of a compass rose and shows the boat where it lies from it. To add it to a screen or a DNS layout, open Edit Mode, tap Add Content, and choose top view on the nav tab. See Anchor Watch in the widget reference.
- Rings: five rings around the anchor. The outer ring is the swing circle, and each ring shows its distance.
- Wind: the white arrow on the rose is the true wind direction. The purple marks around it show where the wind has blown from lately, so you see it swing.
- Chain & Scope, top left on a wide widget: the chain out and the scope it gives at the present depth.
- Dist & Bearing, top right: the distance and the bearing from the boat to the anchor.
- At the bottom, the speed over ground and the depth. The water takes the colour of the depth alarm when it goes off.
When the boat is well past the swing circle, it turns orange, the compass rose turns red, and the view shifts to keep the boat in sight. The top right corner then reads Dragdist & Bearing, in red, with how far the boat is past the swing circle.
The anchor values on the data tab
At anchor, the data tab of the Tools panel starts with Chain & Scope, Dist & Bearing and Anchor Position, the position where Zora has placed the anchor. Long-press the data tab to change the list; see The data tab.
Move the anchor position
If you know the anchor lies somewhere else, for example because you watched it go down from a known spot, move it:
- In the anchor tools, tap adjust position. The button shows only while the anchor is on watch. Zora brings up the DNS with the Adjust Position tool open.
- Drag the anchor on the satellite map, or enter its position.
- Tap Save. Cancel leaves the anchor where it was.
Zora moves both circles to the new position and goes on watching from there.
When the alarm sounds
The alarm reads Anchor dragging, Boat position outside perimeter. Check Position and reset, with its own sound. Zora brings up the DNS with the anchor tools open.
- Check the boat's position against the anchor and the land around you.
- If the anchor is dragging, tap re-anchor to set it again with the chain you have out, or LEAVE then GET UNDERWAY to leave the anchorage. See At anchor.
- If the anchor holds and the boat only swings wider than the circle allows, for example in a wind shift, move margin added to the right to widen the alarm circle.
The alarm clears once the boat is back inside the alarm circle.
