Vessel Assets

Vessel Assets holds the files that belong to this boat. Today that is the boat's polar. Screensavers and Emergency Screens are marked coming soon and do not open yet.

You do this in the Zora Setup app. See Open the Setup app.

What the polar is for

Zora learns the boat's polar from its own sailing, under sail with the engine off. It uses it for the sailing performance targets and to plan a route under sail. A new boat has sailed nowhere yet, so on its first miles Zora has little to go on.

An uploaded polar fills that gap. Zora uses it for every angle and wind speed the boat has not sailed yet. Once the boat has sailed about three minutes at a given angle and wind speed, its own figure replaces the uploaded one there, one cell at a time. Outside the range the file covers, Zora waits for the boat's own figures.

Prepare the file

Zora reads the table that Expedition and B&G use, and ORC's CSV of it:

• The first row is a label, then the wind speeds in knots, lowest first. It needs at least two.
• Each row after it is a true wind angle in degrees, from 0 to 180, then the boat speed in knots for each wind speed. Every row has as many cells as the first.
• Cells are separated by tabs, semicolons or commas. Where commas do not separate the cells, a decimal comma is fine.
• A blank cell or a 0 is a speed the file does not give. Every wind speed needs at least one.
• Lines starting with # are skipped.
• The file is at most 256 KB.

Upload the polar

1. On the Setup home screen, tap Vessel Assets, then Boat Polar.
2. Under Upload polar, tap Select the polar file and pick the file.
3. Tap Upload.

Setup confirms with Polar uploaded. Under Current polar you then see the file's name, when it was uploaded, and the range of true wind angles (TWA) and wind speeds (TWS) it covers. The next route Zora plans uses it.

If Zora cannot read the file, it refuses all of it and says why under the file field, naming the line at fault where there is one. Fix that line and upload again. A polar already loaded stays in use until then.

Replace or delete the polar

A boat has one uploaded polar.

• To replace it, pick the new file under Replace polar, tap Upload & Replace, then Replace in Replace Polar.
• To remove it, tap Delete, then Delete in Delete Polar. Zora goes on with what the boat has measured itself.

Neither touches what the boat has measured. Its own figures stay.
